Sums within 10 are the foundation facts — the ones students should eventually answer instantly, without counting. Getting there starts with a reliable strategy (counting on) and then lots of light, repeated practice until the answers simply pop.
How to use it
At first, use the number line: start on the larger number and hop forward. As recall grows, cover the number line and let your child answer from memory, returning to it only when stuck. Quick, low- pressure fluency rounds work better than long drills. When sums to 10 feel automatic, move on to addition within 20.
