Common 2nd grade words, spelled right
Second graders read and write certain words constantly — because, friend, school, people, little — but these are also some of the most misspelled, because they don’t follow simple sound-it-out rules. This worksheet zooms in on the tricky letters in each one.
How to use it
Have your child say each word slowly, fill in the missing letters, then write the whole word once to lock it in. Point out the trouble spots (the ea in because, the double t in little). Pairs with 2nd grade sight words for reading and writing the same high-frequency words.
👩🏫 Teacher note
These are words 2nd graders read and write often but frequently misspell. Have students say each word slowly, then check the tricky part (the ea in because, the double letters).
🏠 Parent note
Say the word, then look closely at the tricky letters. Have your child write the whole word once after filling in the blanks.
Common Mistakes to Watch For
- Spelling tricky words the way they sound (becuase for because)
- Leaving out a silent or doubled letter
