Adding 100 only changes the hundreds
Just like adding ten changes only the tens digit, adding 100 changes only the hundreds digit. So 234 + 100 = 334 - the tens and ones don’t move. Seeing it with a hundred-flat makes “100 more” and “100 less” instant mental math.
How to use it
Start with the base-ten blocks: 100 more is one more flat, 100 less is one fewer. Then do it from the number alone - change the hundreds digit, keep the rest. Builds on 10 more, 10 less and place value to the hundreds.
