Three-digit addition with regrouping is the same skill students built with two-digit numbers, now with the chance to carry twice — once from the ones and once from the tens. Careful column alignment and remembering to add each carried number are what make it click.
How to use it
Work right to left, carrying as you go, and estimate first to check reasonableness: 247 + 185 rounds to about 430, so an answer of 432 looks right (and 1,032 clearly doesn’t). Builds on 2-digit addition with regrouping and pairs with 3-digit subtraction.

Same regrouping idea as two-digit addition, now with a second carry. Have students estimate first (247 + 185 is about 430) to check their answer.

Add the ones, carry if needed, then the tens, carry if needed, then the hundreds.
