Worksheet Preview
The 4s are double-doubles
Multiplying by 4 is doubling twice. Take 4 x 7: double 7 to get 14, then double 14 to get 28. This turns the 4 times table into two easy doubling steps and connects it directly to the 2s. Students who own their doubles pick up the 4s quickly.
How to use it
Have students double, then double again rather than adding 4 repeatedly. This builds on the 2 times table and previews the 8 times table, which doubles a third time. Part of the full times tables set.
👩🏫 Teacher note
Multiplying by 4 is doubling twice: 4 x 7 is 7 doubled (14) and doubled again (28). This links the 4s to the 2s students already know.
🏠 Parent note
To multiply by 4, double the number, then double your answer. 4 x 6: 6 to 12 to 24.
Common Mistakes to Watch For
- Doubling only once
- Confusing 4 x 6 and 4 x 7
