More affixes, more word power

Set 2 adds dis-, over-, under-, im-, -able, -ment, -ion, and -er/-or. Many of these turn a verb into a noun or change a word into its opposite — unlock them the same way you did in set 1: cover the affix, read the root, then add the part back.

How to use it

Do set 1 first, then try this one. For -er and -or, remember they name the person who does the action. Pairs with homophones and commonly confused words.

👩‍🏫 Teacher note

Review set 1 first, then introduce one or two new affixes at a time. Notice how -ion often changes a verb into a noun (collect -> collection).

🏠 Parent note

Say the root word, add the affix, and talk about how the meaning changed.

Common Mistakes to Watch For

  • Applying a spelling change twice (hoping for happppiness)
  • Mixing up dis- (not / opposite) with mis- (wrongly)

Answer Key
